Optometric lens determination: What is the difference between a "normal" eye test and an optometric lens determination like the one we perform ? Eye test is the generic term for a whole range of tests that concern the different aspects of vision and visual perception. In the broadest sense, it is understood as the testing of visual acuity. Subjective or objective refraction to determine an optimal optical correction takes place only rudimentarily.

An optometric lens determination includes four parts.

In the first part we get a picture of your personal initial situation in the area of vision problems, your previous correction (glasses), your general health and that of your eyes. In addition, we also consider external influences such as medication or family history of eye diseases.

In the second part, all measurement data are determined, such as the necessary lens power for distance and near, the maximum achievable visual power, the alignment of the two visual axes and the interaction of both eyes.

In the third part, your eyes are examined for abnormalities in both the anterior and posterior segments of the eye. These measurements are used for early detection of, for example, cataract, glaucoma or macular changes. This part also includes the measurement of the eye pressure, the measurement of the visual field, the measurement of the optic nerves and the digital documentation of the retina.

In the fourth part, we discuss the obtained results with you and based on the conversation and the data, we recommend the optimal correction for you.
